Lloyd Hall Renovations
Building History
Classrooms for interdisciplinary sciences are located in Lloyd Hall. The building also houses several other departments which include:
- New College in the College of Arts and Sciences
- The Writing Center
- The Classroom Resource Center
- McNair Scholars
Lloyd Hall was built in 1927 as the home for the expanding Chemistry Department and was named in honor of Stewart J. Lloyd who was the first Dean of the School of Chemistry, Metallurgy, and Ceramics. When the Chemistry Department moved in 2004 Lloyd took on the role of an interdisciplinary building.
A satellite food court and lounge area were added to Lloyd when it was renovated in 2009. It was a much needed venue for students attending classes and/or working in the other resource areas located within the facility.
In 2017 the food court and lounge areas were renovated for a second time and the finishes were upgraded. The sealed concrete floors and stainless track lighting provide an industrial look to the space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
